Savagnin, not to be confused with Sauvignon, is an ancient variety from the sub-alpine regions of eastern France and thought to be a clonal variety of the Traminer grape. It is thick skinned, late ripening and acidic, and most famously made into the Sherry-like Vin Jaune and the sweet, concentrated Vin de Paille- though this expression is crisp and dry.
The Terres Blueus is a straw yellow color and a bit cloudy. The nose is floral and cheesy -think fresh triple cream- and on the pallet we get honey, apricot, almond skins with a limey acidity to cut through it all. The finish lasts for days.
