Check out the vintage on this rare dry blend of Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotaly from the Tocai growing region in Hungary! Túlélő (“Survivor” in Hungarian), was made from the best grapes from all of Lenkey's vineyards in the difficult vintage of 2008- it's perhaps the best thing to come out of that whole inauspicious year, wine or otherwise.
You taste the age in all of the best ways. The nose gives me hay, wax, lavender, and apricot skin, and old books. Muddle orange and yellow fruits bounce on the palate, with a pronounced herbal, woody acidity. A white with this level of age and sophistication, from such a storied wine region, is a real treasure.
